Instructions for Rhino Users
Basic Use
To create a web page containing your
model:
- Select
objects to be exported.
- Pick File->Export
Selected.
- Enter
the name of the html file.
- Change
Save As Type to 3DCT Web File.
- Pick Save.
Two files are created:
an HTML page and a compressed mesh file (with a .3dc
extension). Simple web pages can be produced with a
variety of options described below. More complex, fully
customized web pages can be created by using an HTML
template.
Options
To access the web page options, pick Tools->Options
from the Rhino menu, then under Rhino Options
pick 3DCT Web Export.
Viewer
- Width and Height
- Sets the size in pixels of the 3D viewer
on the web page.
- Color
- Sets the color of surfaces with no
material definition. If unchecked, will appear as
in Rhino.
- Background
- Sets the background color of the viewer.
If unchecked, it will match the background color of
the web page.
- Spin
- Activates the autospin feature. The
amount of spin (in degrees) for each axis can be set.
- Force Two Sided

- One Light

used.
- Caption Bar
- If checked a Caption bar at the bottom
of the viewer appears.
- Menu
- If checked a menu control appears in
the corner of the viewer. This gives users greater
control of the viewer.
Hyperlink Controls
When any of these are checked, text with
a hyperlink control of the viewer is inserted. If the
menu is turned on, these are not needed.
Heading and Footing
The heading and footing text is inserted
immediately before and after the 3D view. They may contain
plain text or HTML. The string %n is replace
by the name of the file. To include the % character
in the heading or footing, use %.
Template Settings
- Template Pathname
- Pathname of the source html template
file.
- Base URL
- If the compressed (.3dc) file is to
be stored in a different location than the web page,
specify the base URL for that file here.
HTML Templates
A template HTML file can be any HTML file
that contains an IMG tag with
the SRC attribute set to the value
of "img3d". A copy of the template is made, replacing
the dummy image with an OBJECT
tag and an EMBED tag that will
insert a 3D viewer in the place of the image. The combination
of EMBED and OBJECT
tags will allow the page to be viewed properly with
Internet Explorer, Netscape or Opera browsers. The dummy
IMG tag can be inserted anywhere
that an image can be (e.g. within text, inside a table,
etc.). If the width and height of the dummy image is
specified, that size will be used for the 3D viewer.
The following is an example image tag:
<IMG SRC="img3d" WIDTH=300 HEIGHT=350>
